TRY GIN SET

WELCOME TO YOUR GIN TASTING

You are about to taste five different artisanal gins that showcase different flavor styles.

THE TRY GIN BOOKLET

The English version of the 60-page booklet that is included in the set (in German) can be downloaded here.

TASTING INSTRUCTIONS

PREPARING YOUR TASTING

You don't need much to taste it. You just have to provide glasses. So-called digestif glasses are particularly suitable (see booklet pages 28-29). If you don't have these on hand, you can also use shot glasses.

You also may want to prepare some water and perhaps some breadsticks or some other neutral snack.

DRINKING GIN STRAIGHT

Even if it might be unusual for you: I definitely recommend tasting the gins neat. This is the best way to taste the different flavors of the five gins.

GIN AND TONIC

You definitely don't want to do without tonic water? Then try a selection of different tonics. Companies like Aqua Monaco or Fevertree offer different varieties. Since the amount of gin in the set is not enough for several large mixed drinks, I would also mix the gin & tonic in the shot or digestif glass in a 1/2 or 1/3 ratio.

HOW TO TASTE GIN?

Very important when tasting gin: take your time!

FIRST SMELL THE GIN
What aromas do you sense in the nose? Attention: it is possible that the alcohol will rise first in the nose and only then the aromas. Smell your way in slowly!

TASTE CONSCIOUSLY
Don't swallow it straight away. Swish the gin in your mouth before
swallowing it.

THE AFTERTASTE
After swallowing, pay attention to the finish. You may discover new aromatic nuances.

DESCRIBING IS THE MOST DIFFICULT
What did you taste? Exchange ideas with the others. Very important: There is no right or wrong as the taste perception is very individual.
